HOW WE GOT HERE
From a research finding to a company
Writence was not founded to chase a market. It was founded to address a pattern the research kept pointing to.
The problem
The writers who work hardest are flagged most often
Most of the world writes English as a second language. The same writers who study grammar, build vocabulary, and revise their drafts the hardest are the ones AI detectors flag most often — because careful, learned English reads as “too clean” to a classifier.
The research
The evidence came first
Multiple studies — Stanford in 2023, Maryland in 2025, and others — show that AI-detection tools carry a measurable bias against non-native English. False positive rates on ESL text are substantially higher than vendors report. This body of research is the reason Writence exists.
The answer
Two products from one mission
Writence did not build a detector. It built tools that keep the writer in control and produce a verifiable record of how the work was written. Diglot serves bilingual writers; Copyeditor serves academics. Both run on the same engine and share the same premise: the work remains the writer’s, and the process behind it can be documented and shown.
